I was born with a need to create. It is as much a part of me as breathing. I love the creative process and problem-solving. My passion is to create a unique art form that reveals the seamless integration of the physical world with the human spirit. For me, creativity reaches beyond technique. Creativity is my life; my way of perceiving the world and touching others with grace, inspiration, and awakening.
Today, I create 3-dimensional objects from transformed materials. My sculptures have grown into kinetically alive figures that tell their stories of renewal and my life journey. My ideas stem from the world around me, a blend of conscious and subconscious imagery. I love to discover the unexpected and to leave room for spontaneity. My studio, in Gainesville, Florida, is set up with multiple working stations to accommodate the vast range of techniques and materials I use.
The techniques I use to create my work is a blend of a life long passion for working with my hands along with old and new practices. The bodies for my sculptures begin by transforming wood using hand and power carving tools. I sculpt the faces out of clay, fire them, and then use various finishing methods before making silicone molds for casting. This provides me with endless options for altering the original face. The iron and steel parts are created from found objects and hand-forged shapes. The steel, bronze, and iron are combined to create one of a kind elements. The carved wood and cast faces are finished with multiple layers of translucent stains, detailed painting, and patinas. All of the elements are finally joined together allowing the personality of the piece to reveal its self.
