“My artwork consists of unique textiles, made from naturally dyed silk and cotton that is hand-woven to be then designed into art-to-wear. Most recently, at Festivals in Winter Park, Milwaukee, and Coconut Grove, my work was honored with prestigious awards for outstanding design.”
A national of Laos, Bounkhongam has been working since 2001 out of New York and Secaucus. Before, in Vientiane, Laos, Bounkhong started weaving and opened a workshop with weavers from the city’s outskirts. Yarns used have always been hand-spun and naturally dyed. Bounkhong created various textiles from silk, cotton, and hemp such as scarves, shawls, and wall-hangings to be woven on a traditional loom and later designed into fashion items like coats, jackets, shirts, and kimonos.
