Douglas and Renee have been blowing glass together for over 25 years. As students, they traveled to Murano, Italy on their honeymoon. On that trip, they learned that Douglas was a direct relation to a family of European glassblowing tradesmen with the same last name. His great-great-grandfather, Ludwig, was the last glassblower in the family line until Douglas and Renee picked up the mantle. The couple like to say, “it was in the blood.”
Their work includes blown glass, watercolor series, transparent colored glass overlays, and clear glass layers which achieve an elusive interplay of color and 3-dimensional color auras. They create non-functional vessels, wall hanging clusters, and 8-foot towers. Their design themes are optimism, joy, and mystery. Each piece is one of a kind.
